This is the most beautiful song that I’ve heard in awhile. Ever since I watched the live version of this on youtube I immediately fell in love with it. It’s so sad that it’s hauntingly beautiful. So beautiful it makes you want to weep. If you watch Garden State, there’s one part where Natalie Portman’s character, Sam, said to Andrew (Zach Braff), “You gotta hear this one song, it’ll change your life I swear” and handed him her headphones which was playing New Slang by The Shins. This song is exactly one of those life-changing song. To me, at least. It’s been such a long time since a song touch me this much. So much I feel as if flowers start blooming in my heart while tears silently roll down my cheeks (all these are metaphorical, because my eyes are dry). To be honest, I had no idea what the lyrics said at all. Even when I didn’t understand a single word of the song (other than the two English lines), this song just hit me. It’s one of the songs you didn’t need to know what it meant to feel it. It just washes over you. I think I might be a bit exaggerating as I’m one of those people who gets entirely obsessed with something. Ever since I heard this, I had been sharing it with all the people around me and I must say majority of them do agree it’s one of those hauntingly beautiful song. So I guess its beauty is more or less appreciated universally (in a way) which makes me happy. :D
